Everyone needs to start somewhere. I am 31 years old and only now I got serious about savings. I always saved in my life, but I was never serious about it and I never had saving goals.

In 2020, I was jobless and on benefits. Things were bad, but they would be much worse if I didn’t have any savings to add to this little income and make ends meet. I would need to move back to my parents’ house in Brazil.

And I didn’t want to do that, because it wouldn’t be a choice, but the only way to survive. I wanted to prove that I could survive. And I did. Things got better. I got a job and now I am building my Emergency Fund.

My primary goal in 2021 is to have these savings built.

Sometimes, I get upset to think I am 31 years old, and I only will have saved £10,000. But then, I think about my past 5 years in the UK; they were hard and difficult. I am an immigrant; I restarted
