How To Deal With A Parent That Has A Mental Illness

If you can afford a good doctor everything will be all right

Well, it’s easy to say that we have a crazy mother or father. Yes, we do have a crazy mother or father. But calling them crazy won’t make their craziness go away.

My mother has a Mental Illness. I don’t even know her diagnosis because it won’t change anything. It won’t change how unstable she was when I was growing up.

She overreacted on so many different occasions. The day she beat me in the shower because I lost a gold earring. The day that she invited my ex-boyfriend to have a cake at our house on his birthday after I told her all the awful things he put me through. All the times she told me I would get Aids for having sex. All the times she told me, I looked like I had Aids for being anorexic. The day that she said: She should have left me where she found me, where I would sell my dinner to buy my lunch.

Well… I am still recovering from these things. And I am still working on forgiving my mother. She probably doesn’t know how resentful I am. And how much pain she caused me.

Having such a close person with a Mental Illness is a very emotional experience, as any diseases bring the worst in people. I met my mother many times when she was at her worst. She…
