I Tried To Live in The UK with £1,000 per Month, and I Failed
It’s important to keep things real.
In June 2021, I wrote an article saying that I would live in the UK with £1,000 per month. I tend to keep a good track of my expenses and my spending habits. And unfortunately, I wasn’t able to do it. I already live a pretty frugal lifestyle, and reducing my budget from £1,250 to £1,000 made things almost impossible.
I had just moved to another flat with my boyfriend when I wrote that, and I didn’t know how things would change. Three changes happened. First, I started spending more money on food, not because we ordered in or went out to eat, but because our groceries got bigger and more expensive. Second, we started playing the lottery because we never knew. Third, we now have a cleaner that comes for two hours once a week. This can seem like a luxury, and I never in my adult life before had a cleaner, but to avoid fights regarding who was doing more cleaning than the other, we decided to invest in our well-being as a couple.
Below you can see all my expenses.
My expenses at the moment:
- Rent: £600
- Internet: £14
- Water: £18
- Electricity: £27
- Council Tax: £82.50
