The year 2020 was hard for most people, I included. I was jobless and on benefits. I was making £900 per month and only my rent was £750. My parents at the time let me deal on my own with my hardest financial struggle and that helped me to grow.

I had a little bit of savings, so every month, I did magic. I cut off any non-essential spending, and I was making sure I was paying my bills on time and buying food that was nutritious and that I liked. I didn’t shop for a year and I rarely took the bus/tube. I walked everywhere.

I learned how to live on a really low and strict budget, after that when I got a job, making around £1,650 per month, I knew I could save a good chunk of it. I gave myself the budget of £1,250 per month and from January/2021 to May/2021, I respected this budget.

IMPORTANT NOTE: I am not including in this my expenses with my moving, which doubled my expenses last month. Moving is expensive, and you need to budget for that.

Now we are in June/2021, and I cut my budget down to £1,000 per month because I want to save £650 per month every month until December/2021. Before I was living on my own, now I am living with my boyfriend. Being able to save more was one of the reasons that motivated my…
