Yesterday, I asked my boyfriend if he ever pretended to be crying about something when he was actually crying about something else in public. He said he didn’t. He is not a good example because he never cries. But I am. I am a crier. I love a good cry and I am used to crying in public.

Although, I have the habit of crying in public, seeing someone crying in public is just awkward. There is no manual to teach us what we should do when we see someone crying in public in a situation where there is no reason to be crying in the first place. As a crier, I would say the best thing to do is to pretend nothing is happening and let the person cry as much as they want.

The only time it is acceptable to be crying in public is for other people’s happiness. Usually at weddings and other big or smaller celebrations that mark milestones in someone’s life. There is also the entire opposite situation like a funeral, but this is subject to a different story.

In 2009, I had my heart broken (not for the first or last time), and at the same time, I had a family member’s engagement party. I knew that I could cry in public if I pretended I was crying because of their happiness and not because I was miserable and suffering. I even remember that family member saying how impressed they were with my emotions.
