Why Can’t We Trust People That Don’t Know How To Cook?
Because knowing how to cook is taking full responsibility for your life.
One of the most important parts of being human is the need (and the want) to eat. Although some people can go without eating for days, some because they don’t have access to food and some because they are intentionally fasting, eating is what keeps us alive. We need food, and most of us want food. Food is an important aspect of our cultures and behaviours.
So that’s why it’s so hard for me to understand the people that don’t know how to cook and don’t want to do anything to change this. I am not saying that everyone needs to be a five-star Michelin star chef, but some basics need to be covered. Cooking an egg, a piece of chicken or a potato is not hard science. Everyone can do and should do it. I can’t understand the people who are proud to admit that they don’t know how to cook and aren’t going to do anything about it. They are “happy” not cooking.
For over a decade now, I have been cooking for myself, partners, family members and friends, and I can say I am a pretty good cook. I love finding new recipes and planning our meals for the week. But there were periods of my life during this last decade that I got lazy and relied on take outs and dining out. And this is an expensive…
